Reading is one of my favorite things to do in my spare time. One of my favorite books would have to be Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. Since half the girls in my sixth grade class were reading it, it immediately grabbed my attention. I definitely wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Once I had my hands on the paranormal romance, it had me loving the story by the first chapter. Soon it had me obsessed with it, making me fall in love with the characters as well. The love story based on a human falling in love with a vampire, was a dream of the author's brought to life in a novel. The main character, Bella Swan, moves in with her father at the age of seventeen in Forks, Washington. Going to school, she expects to have a normal life like others, until she is captivated by the one and only Edward Cullen, who carries a secret with him. Not only does Bella seem to be interested with him, but the same with Edward. Throughout the book we are shown how the two get closer, until it is impossible for them to be away from one another. We find out his shocking secret: he is a vampire, with the power to read minds. Except he cannot read Bella's mind, which is one of the reasons why he was interested and curious about her at first. The book is a page turner, with romance and action combined together. I am glad Twilight was the first love story I read, in the beginning of my teenage years, because it led and encouraged me to read more books like Twilight. It is and forever will be one of my favorite book because who can resist a good, irresistible, and forbidden love?
I have also read this book, and think it most definitely is a page turner. The novel has a mysterious quality to it,which caught my attention and the love story between the two characters and the immediate bond that they share is indescribable.I have to agree with the point that you made about the romance and action in the book, it does not just have romance between two characters,it also has action and fighting between others. The fact that Bella's and Edwards romance was sort of dangerous and secretive in a sense, added more suspense to the novel.I can understand why you picked this as your favorite book.

ReplyDeleteThis may not be one of my favorite books, but it is definitely in my top ten, but the reason I enjoyed this book is very similar to yours. I agree completely with how you described it. I remember when the entire grade had read the book, meanwhile I just waited to watch the movie. However, after reading the book along with having seen the movie, I realized that the book was much better. It is not everyday that you read about a vampire falling in love with a mysterious girl, unless you read this book everyday...
ReplyDeleteI remember the year when all us girls were reading this romantic, heart capturing book. Even though this book will certainly never be seen in the non-fiction section at the library, you still find yourself searching for an introvert vampire. The bond between Bella and Edward is unquestionably unique. I agree with you entirely, when you describe this book as a page turner; there was not one second in the day where my mom was not yelling at me to put this book down! Last, but certainly not least, this book truly does include many different book genres other than romance. Well done,Talar, great choice!
ReplyDeleteI love the story of Twilight and reading your post honestly gave me goosebumps. Although I have not read the book, just watching the movie was enough to get me obsessed with the story. It is truly one of the cutest stories I know, and I can and cannot wait until the last movie comes out in November. I can, because I do not want these beautiful series to end. I cannot, because I want to experience another amazing sequel.
ReplyDeleteI have read the Twilight series as well, and I have to admit that even though the story itself was indeed a page turner, it was one of the most ill wriitten books I have ever read. The idea was well thought out, the execution of it was not. What could have been a powerful story ended up being a cheesy, weak ending. I am not disagreeing with you on the fact that it was addictive, I just wish Stephenie Meyer had done a better job.
ReplyDeleteTalar - I too have read this series of books and was interested in it while I read each of them. I think I finished the entire series in less than two weeks. Now as I look back on them though, I realize that I even though I don't really like them now, I agree that they are a decent set of books for teenage girls to like.
ReplyDeleteThe way you described the book made me want to dig up my whole Twilight series, that I have intentionally lost, and read it again. I remember being one of the first people to read the book and also remember (sadly) how obsessed I was with it. I cannot believe I had actually reread Eclipse more than 30 times. This series truly is captivating (for a short time) and you found a way to capture my attention with your post.
ReplyDeleteI agree, this was a great love story. I had watched the movie and immediately fell in love with the characters and storyline. I loved the first movie and I was anxious to see the following three.
ReplyDeleteThe love and devotion that is presented by Bella and Edward is true and is the cause for many people, especially teenagers, to find their true love and wait for their " Edward".
